Logon Procedure and Physical Network Security:
The network architecture of the eMLM System has been designed to prevent intrusion into the system as well as limit the effects of the intrusion should a component of the system be compromised. This includes changes of the network protocol at strategic points in the network. The change in network protocol also prevents attack to the internal TCP/IP network. Inclusion of a firewall and intrusion detection system further enhances the security.

System Level Security:
At the system level the system uses Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) security protocol to guarantee confidentiality of information transferred between the WWW client and the WWW server. A digital certificate obtained from apache secure web server can be used to allow the WWW client to positively identify the WWW Server. The underlying encryption technology employed is 256-bit SSL encryption, which is extendable and will allow upgrading of the cryptographic algorithms used with minimal change to the underlying architecture. Other methods used to ensure transaction security and integrity are Internet Information Server IP control, Session Control, Declarative and Programmatic Security. There is also use of the Linux filing system to control access to the filing system and the use of LDAP (Lightweight Directory Access Protocol) to verify users and passwords (Optional).

Application Level Security:
In the application there are transaction level audits, which allow the administrator to monitor usage of the system and attempts to intrude into the system. Sensitive data will be encrypted prior to transmission over the Internet, and server authentication should be in place. User passwords should always be encrypted prior to transmission over any network.
